Event Emissions Online Course

How To Measure, Manage, and Mitigate Event Emissions

A Live 120-Minute Course

Taught by Natalie Lowe, CMM CRL

Wednesday, August 9, 2023
12pm - 2pm EDT / 9am - 11am PDT

Course Description

Until we measure the environmental impact of our events, the best we can do is guess that we are making progress.  Does this sound scary?  A lot of math, maybe a complex spreadsheet or two?

Not to worry, if you can use Google, add, subtract, multiply and divide using a spreadsheet, you can easily understand how to measure your event emission footprint, and manage it.

This session will show you how to calculate different aspects of an event like flights, travel, freight, food & beverage, materials - and determine your event emissions.

Once you know where your event emissions are coming from, you can work on the largest sources, and efficiently reduce the environmental impact. We’ll then look at how to measure your actual event emissions after the event, and find ways to improve.

During this 2-hour session, you will create an emissions budget, pull together an action plan to address your event’s emissions, and develop a process to measure your actual emissions.

What to expect: There is a bit of homework ahead of time to get everyone on the same page.  During the session you'll do some work on your own, and some in groups, and we will use internet search tools and google sheets during the session.
